Q & A
Q: How did you come up with your business name?
W. Rae Goulding
I was attempting to make a breakfast menu for us as part of a grocery plan. I'm very clutzy on the computer but somehow designed a menu and came up with MattRaeGo Restaurante. I wanted to blend Matthew, Rae and Margo, our dog into the name, so it just kinda stuck, and Margo (The Boss) seemed to like it :).
Q: How long have you been a coach?
W. Rae Goulding
I have been coaching for as long as I can remember, so moving into Job Coaching was very natural for me. In the early 90's I began meditating and leading guided meditation retreats and also began guiding, coaching and encouraging people to explore their own paths. My background is in Hands on Healing and I have had the privilege of studying with some of what I would consider some of the greatest healers, including my grandmother. Some of my earlier studies included Color Therapy, Energetic Vibrational Frequencies and I also am a Certified Reki Master, Teacher & Trainer.
Q: Tell me about your first experience as a coach?
W. Rae Goulding
Very early I began public speaking (late 80's) and working with an organization called PFLAG (https://pflag.org/our-story/) to collect information to bring to public speaking engagements. During the AIDS epidemic in the early 90's, there was a lot of false propaganda around children being raised in Gay and Lesbian families. I was asked to speak first at Front Range Community College. This really began my coaching career because students and teachers, professors began reaching out and I was able to open a space for others to step into the light and speak their truth as well. It was a wonderful experience and one that I was invited to first speak by my very good and long time friend Patty, because she was a student and thought that I would do a great job speaking on this very crucial topic.
Q: You don't use the term "Client" when referring to the individuals you work with. Why is that?
W. Rae Goulding
A client is a recipient of a particular service, such as a lawyer or therapist. As a coach, my job is to create space for an individual to explore their potential. By holding space, it's a very involved experience where I'm inviting individuals to go on a scavenger hunt, if you will, without attaching to the outcome. In this way, they are Participants, which suggests and welcome's their participation in the process.
